Underglazes are full bodied matt opaque glazes that are used as the name suggests, under a clear glaze. The underglazes have been designed to cover any size area where a consistent opaque finish is required.
Underglazes are suitable for use in education where an affordable non-toxic product is required, that is easy to apply and produces outstanding results.
The colors can be used directly from the bottle without the addition of water.
The advantages of the Underglazes are:
– May be used on greenware or bisque
– Will tolerate application to most clay bodies
– May be used under most clear brush on or dipping glazes
– Easy to apply using between one and three coats
– No bleeding at inter-color interface
– Colors may be intermixed to create numerous different other colors
– Some colors can be fired as high as cone 10 (1,305o C) in either gas or electric kilns under suitable glazes. Refer to colorchart
– May be used for screen printing directly without any additives
