UNDERGLAZE CHALK
Underglaze chalk: because sometimes you just want to express yourself on your bisque - your way. Versatile, vibrant, and lead-free (because toxic chalk are so last century).
We make STRAIGHT CHALK – You read that right, wonky chalk is a real problem (just Google underglaze chalk). We’ve taken care to ensure all our chalk is straight so it doesn’t look like offcuts of colored clay and they are all uniform in length. We don’t skimp on consistency here.

Yes, some colors may change between Cone 06 to Cone 10, but the point is the color is there. Hello, violet and pink!
BASIC USAGE GUIDE
The Underglaze Chalk range is sold in two boxes of six different colors. We can't decide which one we like better, so it's best to try both!

Completely lead-free.

Smudge-proof? Mostly. Sponge on the first coat to make sure nothing goes awry, then brush a couple of coats or dip for the finale!

Good to go on bisque!

Clear glaze and fire for food-safe finish.

All Underglaze Chalk fire between Cone 06 (999°C) - Cone 10 (1,305°C).
We’re beginner Friendly and here to help (FAQ)
The Underglaze Chalk has so many functions and we have named our favorite.
- Hand signing the bottom of your pieces.
- Studio use for telling students artwork apart.
- Creating a watercolor effect by using a wet brush to go over any drawings.
- Smudging and blending different chalk colors.
The easiest way to avoid this is to gently sponge on the first coat of clear glaze before either brushing on the final two coats or dipping in clear glaze.
They sure are! All our chalks are ASTM D4236 certified.
This is the testing report you should actively look for when purchasing underglaze chalks as there can be dust exposure on use.

The higher the firing the more the color will fade. However, most colors hold true to the color swatches at Cone 10.
